New Facility Fuel Oil System for Shepherd Center

2015

Project Summary:

Shepherd Center, located in Atlanta, Georgia, is a private, not-for-profit hospital specializing in medical treatment, research and rehabilitation for people with spinal cord and brain injury. A new hospital addition resulted in the need to remove the old facility fuel oil system, and to furnish and install a new state of the art facility fuel oil system.

There was a very challenging aspect to this plan – the new fuel oil tank system location was in a very tight area with existing obstacles. It was located between a parking deck and an existing Central Energy Plant building. Jones & Frank could only install one tank at a time and our shoring system design took this into account. As part of our proposed turnkey facility fuel oil system solution, we included a shoring system which was designed and installed by Jones & Frank for the site.

Our facility fuel oil solution included two new underground double wall fiberglass storage tanks and piping system. A pumping distribution and controls system was designed and constructed to reliably provide fuel to all the boilers and generators. A Pneumercator TMS-3000 environmental tank monitoring, level and leak detection system including a MODBUS RTU interface was also installed to allow for remote monitoring to interface with the facility’s Building Management System.

This successful installation provided best-in-class equipment and technology resulting in a highly dependable and safe facility fuel oil system that will last for many years.
